Whatever you focus on you’re gonna feel. If you focus on what you can’t control you’re going to feel overwhelmed and discouraged. If you focus on bad things in your life you will feel depressed and unmotivated. Even if you focus on something that isn’t true you’re gonna feel it. If you focus on all the great things in your life, you will be overcome with gratitude and love. Does this mean ignore the bad things and just think positive? No, it means think about what you can do to change your situation. How can you fix this? You always can. Find a way, not an excuse. Focus on helping others and your own needs will be taken care of.
Ask yourself these three questions:
1) What should I focus on?
2) What does this mean?
3) What should I do?
First decide what to focus on, then decide what meaning you will give it. If you see a positive potential outcome out of a negative event than you will work it out and get out of the situation successfully. If you think the world is over because something bad happened, then you’re not gonna try and you will fail. If you’re in an intimate relationship and you think it’s the end of that relationship, are you going to treat that person like it was the beginning of that relationship? No. But if you treat every moment with that person as if it was the beginning then there will be no end. This applies to intimate relationships and business and friendships. If you love your customers and clients and would do anything for them, they’re going to love you.
People forget that you determine how you feel, not your surroundings. You always have a choice. Why is it that two people can be in the same environment, going through the same experience, and one person is blissful while the other person is in hell? Focus on what you can control, always find the positive in any negative, and stay in the driver’s seat of your emotions. Never give another individual or experience that power over you. When something happens to you, pause for a moment and ask: “what does this mean? how else can I look at this situation to give it a positive spin? Is it really that bad in the long term?” After doing this return to the present moment and handle the situation gracefully.
If you don’t like your life what do you have to do? Change it. How do you change it? You must make a decision. Until this decision is made the same problems will continue to perpetuate themselves because nothing inwardly has changed. Your mindset is what caused the problem in the first place. Once you change how you think, life takes on a whole new meaning, and problems become a thing of the past. Do things still happen that you didn’t plan for? Yes. Do negative situations still appear from time to time? Of course. The difference is, you don’t look at them the same way. You find the best in every situation and roll with it. There are no good and bad things. There is only life, and I choose to live it to the fullest each and every day, while making the best out of what comes my way.
