Are you lucky? When people see successful people they tend to think, “wow that person’s so lucky,” and when ill fortune comes upon them they consider themselves unlucky. This way of thinking is destructive and is one of the leading reasons you aren’t where you want to be in life. As Sir Ken Robinson says in his book The Element,
“describing ourselves as lucky or unlucky suggests that we’re simply the beneficiaries or victims of chance circumstances… Lucky people often make their luck because of their attitudes.”
Stop being a creature of circumstance. Allowing life’s events to determine your state as well as your future guarantees you’ll never be in control; you”ll never be in the driver’s seat. Someone calls you and gives you bad news and now your day is ruined. You find a lucky penny and now the day is gonna be a good one. Living in reaction to what happens to you is severely disempowering. You must create your own luck. Be a creator of circumstance.
You determine what you are going to feel, do, and experience by your decisions. Samuel Goldwyn says, “the harder I work, the luckier I get.” If you work at what you desire every single day with intense effort, focus, and a determination for constant improvement you will come across as lucky to others. Why? Because your hard work will start to pay off. Is Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world, lucky that he wins races? Was Michael Jordan lucky to be a great basketball player? While there is no doubt these men were physically blessed, they both have acknowledged that they would be nothing without the insane amount of effort they devote to their craft. People are rewarded in public for what they’ve practiced for years in private. When you see someone become successful realize that luck is only slightly responsible. Blood, sweat, and tears are required for success and those who put them in will reap the rewards. You want to be lucky? You want great things to happen to you all the time? Not a problem. Simply change your mentality.
Realize that in order to get what you want, you have to deserve what you want.
Why you? Prove to the world that you are deserving of all your goals and ambitions. Work hard, perfect your craft, seize every opportunity that comes your way, look at failure as a chance to learn and grow, approach each and every situation with a positive outlook and your life will see radical improvement. Then when you make it, when you’ve accomplished everything you’ve set out to accomplish, people will look at you and say “wow, that person is so lucky.” Only then will you fully realize that luck has nothing to do with it. There are three types of people in this world: those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happened. You get one chance at this life. Who do you choose to be?
